Workplace Experiences Made Simple: Help Young People and Make a Difference
Thousands of young people in Somerset are looking for workplace experiences – yet far too few local businesses are offering them. This is a real missed opportunity for businesses in Somerset to help shape the workforce of tomorrow.
In fact, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are uniquely placed to make a real difference. You don’t need a large learning and development team or formal programme to inspire young people, build confidence and help develop the skills employers value. Even short insights into real workplaces can change how young people think about their future.
Offering workplace experiences doesn’t have to be a huge commitment – and something is always better than nothing. If you can’t commit to a week, you could:
- Offer a project experience for a day
- Invite a class in for just a few hours
- Run a skills session
- Welcome young people to a suitable event that’s already in your calendar
- Get involved with an event supported by the Somerset Education and Business Partnership and Somerset Careers Hub
Whatever works for you works for us, and most crucially, will work for young people. Every bit of meaningful exposure to the world of work is what helps them to prepare for it.
So, reach out to us – your local Education Business Partnership and Careers Hub is already helping businesses like yours make it work, and can share all the practical help, resources and workplace experience ideas you need to develop your offer or get started.
Join us for coffee and pastries to find out what help we can offer you at our upcoming SME event:
