School Engagement Can Be Easier Than You Think: Addressing Some Common Concerns

We appreciate that many organisations understand the importance of engaging with young people and are keen to support local schools but don’t always know where to start. Below we have outlined some common concerns we hear from employers and explain how you can turn these perceived barriers into opportunities

“We don’t have a dedicated early careers team”

Although a nice-to-have, this is by no means essential. Students gain real value from hearing directly from employees about their career journeys and roles. Moreover, activities such as mock interviews, our careers fair and our centralised Work Experience Weeks require very little organisation on your part, and our team can support you every step of the way.

“We don’t have the time to commit”

Supporting careers education can be flexible and you can commit as much or as little time as you are able to. Even a one-hour careers talk or providing a careers case study for use in schools can make a real difference to a young person’s understanding of the workplace.

“Young people won’t be interested in our industry”

Young people are naturally curious about the world of work. You may be surprised by the questions they ask and the level of engagement they demonstrate. Activities that are interactive or hands-on can be particularly effective, helping students make real-world connections and bringing careers to life.

“We don’t recruit school leavers, so why should we get involved?”

Careers education supports with more than just filling vacancies. By engaging with young people early, you can raise awareness of your organisation, challenge any misconceptions about your industry and help attract talent with the right skills when they are ready to enter the workforce.

Our team can help you connect with local schools and plan activities that work for your organisation.
