About the Organisation
Down on the Thatchers family farm, we make cider with nothing but love. That’s why we don’t just grow 8 types of apples, we grow 458, and turning those juicy apples into a refreshing pint of cider is a craft we’ve spent 120 years and four generations perfecting. It’s that dedicated attention to detail that delivers the perfect pint of Thatchers, every time.
We’re proud to have crafted an unrivalled range of premium ciders. We use 100% reviewable electricity and decades of expertise to craft innovative ciders that are full of flavour and distinct character, including flagship brands Thatchers Gold, Thatchers Haze and Thatchers Zero.
Careers Activities & Information
We’re proud of our award-winning apprenticeship programme, which is now in its 8th year.
Currently around 20% of our workforce either is, or has been, a Thatchers apprentice, demonstrating our commitment to offering a permanent job to all those who successfully complete their course.
We offer up to six different types of apprenticeships and recruit for them on a yearly basis.
Our commitment to apprentices is summed up nicely in the challenges we set them. Every year we ask our apprentices to present their ideas on the next generation of cider to an esteemed audience - our board of directors, managers and guests. Their ideas range from customer engagement and new cider flavours to the importance of no/low cider for the next generation.
This exercise is a two-way street - they learn creative thinking, formulating pitches, presenting skills and gain confidence that will carry them in their careers. We get great insights into the next generation's perspectives and harness and encourage innovation in our workforce.
We believe apprentices have a hugely positive impact on the business. They bring a fresh mindset and a new generation of ideas. For us, investing in them is not only investing in their futures, but ours too, and we’re always excited to see what they will achieve.
To help support individuals and organisations to enter apprenticeships with Thatchers we offer the following:
• Assembly talks to secondary and post 16 education settings on the benefits and rewards of apprenticeships
• Host employability workshops, such as CV writing
• Run skills workshops to help candidates refine their skills
• Parents Information Evening events and open days
• Talent open day for prospective applicants to find out more about the business
• Site visits to allow people to see behind the scenes of day to day life on Myrtle Farm
• Attendance at careers fairs
We offer operations and commercial apprenticeships from level three upwards. We recruit annually, through assessment days.
