Advice on Hosting Students in the Workplace

Experiences of the Workplace (BM6) Step-by-Step Guide for Employers

As the summer term approaches, many Year 10 students across Somerset are beginning their search for work experience placements, with some already embarking on their first steps into the professional world.

Work experience has long been recognised as a vital part of a young person’s development. It offers students the chance to explore different industries, gain hands-on experience in real workplaces, and build the confidence and skills that will serve them well in future careers.

The landscape of workplace learning is changing. Traditional placements are now being complemented by a range of innovative opportunities, including employer-led projects and workplace visits. These modern approaches aim to engage students from as early as Year 7, giving them a broader and more diverse understanding of the world of work.

For local businesses, the benefits are just as compelling. Offering work experience placements can boost staff development, improve employee engagement, and open doors to a wider talent pool. It’s also a meaningful way to give back to the community and invest in the future workforce.

We are here to support you in building and promoting meaningful and impactful work experience placements for young people. If you are interested in offering placements or learning more about the benefits, you can explore the employers section of the EBP website or contact the EBP team directly at support@somerset-ebp.co.uk
