Key dates

  • What are the key dates I need to know?
    • ENTRIES OPEN - Monday 13th January 2020
    • ENTRIES CLOSE - Friday 13th March 2020
    • Judging takes place - Monday 30th March until Friday 3rd April 2020
    • Finalists announced - Monday 6th April 2020
    • Awards ceremony - Thursday 30th April 2020

 

  • I’ve entered. What happens next?

The judging panel will review award entries and nominations between Monday 30th March until Friday 3rd April 2020. Bridgwater and Taunton College may request to interview and record entrants during this period.

We will let you know if you have been short-listed for an award by Friday 3rd April 2020. If you reach the short list we will invite you to the Awards Ceremony on Thursday 30th April 2020. You will receive two free tickets and further tickets are available to be purchased at a cost.

  • When can I buy tickets for the awards ceremony?

Finalists and sponsors receive priority tickets. Tickets for the general public opens on Monday 6th April 2020, subject to availability.  If you would like to register your interest in tickets before these dates please email us and we will send you a reminder once they are available to purchase.

  • When are the awards held?

The celebratory awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 30th April 2020 at the Somerset County Cricket Club with approximately 120 guests attending.

  • Is there a dress code for the awards ceremony?

As a celebratory awards evening, we would like to give everyone the opportunity to feel special and dress for an occasion. There will be a formal lounge suit and cocktail dress code for the evening.

 


 

Entering the awards

  • How do I enter?

All you need to do is read and complete the awards entry form, making sure that you understand the criteria for the category/ies that you wish to enter. Send your completed entry form via email to support@somerset-ebp.co.uk

  • Can I enter more than one category?

Yes, you can enter into as many categories as you like, providing the category is appropriate and that you can provide the required evidence as detailed in the category criteria to support your entry. For a full list of award categories, click here >

  • What are the entry criteria?

Careers inspiration – business
For an individual or a company that has effectively inspired young people about future career opportunities. Entrants will demonstrate:

Clarity of purpose: a clearly articulated business reason for engaging with young people
Strength of partnership: how they have worked effectively with their partner education establishments
Impact: a clear understanding of how many young people they have inspired and the impact this has had.

Careers inspiration – education
For the education institution that has most effectively inspired students about future careers. Entrants will demonstrate:

Clarity of purpose: a clearly articulated business engagement strategy
Strength of partnership: how they have worked effectively with their business partners
Impact: a clear understanding of how many students they have reached and the impact achieved.

Young aspiration
For a young person or group of young people who have taken significant steps to preparing for their future career. Entrants will demonstrate:

Understanding: recognition that preparing for the workplace is an important element of their education
Direction: clarity about their personal attributes and development goals
Action: clear steps taken outside of curriculum time to meet these goals

Enterprise in education
For the education institution that has delivered the most effective student enterprise challenge. Entrants will demonstrate:

Outlook: recognition of the place of enterprise skills in a rounded curriculum
Delivery: high quality delivery of enterprise activities within the education setting
Impact: a clear understanding of how many students they have reached and the impact achieved.

Removing barriers
For an organisation or individual that has helped remove barriers to progression for disadvantaged people. Entrants will demonstrate:

Clarity of purpose: a clear understanding of the group the nominee / entrant is supporting and the barriers they face
Action: the steps taken to remove barriers
Impact: The number of people reached and the impact achieved.

Overcoming barriers
For an individual who has overcome barriers to progression. Entrants will demonstrate:

Understanding: recognition of the barriers the individual faces
Action: Steps taken (with or without support) to address these
Impact: How this has helped the individual progress towards education or employment

Best placement employer
For the employer that provided the highest quality work experience or placement. Entrants will demonstrate:

Preparation: how the business has prepared to deliver a mutually beneficial placement
Delivery: how the business has ensured a successful placement period
Impact: a clear understanding of how this has benefited the individual and the business

Best placement participant
For the person who performed best during their placement. Entrants will demonstrate:

Preparation: how the person secured and prepared for a successful placement
Engagement:  a strong commitment to delivering the tasks set during the placement period
Impact: a positive impact on the business from the student’s engagement

Outstanding personal contribution (Nomination only)
Partners are invited to nominated individuals who have contributed to raising aspirations in Somerset over a significant period.

  • What will it cost me?

It is free to enter the awards.

  • Can I only apply using the entry form?

Yes – applications must be completed using our awards entry form.

  • Do I need to have worked with Somerset EBP previously to enter?

No. The awards are open to all businesses, work-related learning providers, schools and colleges and individuals who have contributed to inspiring the future workforce in Somerset. For full terms & conditions, please contact us.
